The infection of novel Covid-19 spread in Wuhan city of China for the first time. The first known case of Covid-19 was reported on 17 November 2019. The infection spread very quickly and within a matter of few weeks, it hit Pakistan. Subsequently the first case of the infection was reported on 25 January 2020. Since then the life of millions of Pakistanis changed all of a sudden. It affected the lives of people in many ways like;
Months’ long lockdown affected the labor market of the country particularly the earning rate of daily wagers.
Due to fluctuating market condition, many small businesses went in loss due to consecutive lockdown and ultimately got shut down forever.
Though for many Pakistanis Covid-19 proved a divine curse but for some it was one of a lifetime opportunity to earn. This highly widened socioeconomic gape and increased disparity in people.
One of the greatest impacts of Covid-19, that Pakistan is likely to suffer for a longer time is it pushed a large number of people in the country below poverty line.
The pandemic also affected the schooling routine of millions of students in the country. According to Save The Children, an international humanitarian organization, nearly ten millions children in Pakistan have left schooling forever.
For many decades, the Covid-19 pandemic will be remembered a dark chapter in human history. It not only killed thousands of people but also upside down the lives of millions of people both in Pakistan and across the world.
